 ABS is just great
I thought I would stop in and write a little about getting ABS up and running on my system.
Where to start, well I had been looking for a server app for a long time. I found ABS and looked at the manual, (yeah I know who actually does that) I decided that at the time it looked a little daunting for me. So I proceeded to try another app for my AB sync. It worked fair but when it was trying to sync 5 macs and 2 of which also sync to Mm thats where the problems started. After constant duplication of data within cards and cards them selves I had enough and decided to return to ABS and figure it out.
I downloaded ABS on a sunday morning with 3 hours to go before I went to work. Installed it, read the manual again specifically the part about running on a different port. (which was easy to change). I installed the client on my laptop as a trial and have been very satisfied with it. No duplications no replacing data on the client or the server. The next weekend I proceeded to install it on all of my macs and even installed the iphone client on our 2 iphones. i have it set to sync more often than Mm which I think is a plus.
Long story made short:
It has been up and running for about 3 weeks now, I have my life back all the macs sync perfectly. The wife doesn't call me and say it ( the other app) is doing that thing again.
I would recommend ABS to anyone wanting to manage there own AB sync mechanism. Its not that difficult or hard to do.
Oh I almost forgot to mention I sent an email to support on a Saturday evening asking a relatively simple question now that I look back on it. Alex responded on Sunday. Now thats product support most companies want even think of weekend support.

 Re: ABS is just great
I have been working to add file sharing and server functionality to our small non-profit for a while. When we implemented Snow Leopard Server recently, I was excited about the calendar and address book sharing capabilities. When I discovered that address book sharing was only available to SL clients and that Calendars weren't syncing with iPhone, I quickly made the decision to try Address Book Server. It's been rock solid ever since. We're still figuring out how best to use but it works easily and is easy to set up and the client control panel which is installed in the OS System Prefs is clean and easy to use.
We're also looking forward to having AddresBookServer talk to our FileMaker databases.
Support service is a real pleasure. Thanks Alex.

 Re: ABS is just great
You guys should post more requests at Arizona Time. Everyone here is asleep and I can guess that a good Novell NDS expert could get a LDAP link sync'ng with one eye closed.
Course I had a challenge or two, but a belief in a centralized data base outweighed the falling to sleep action this PM and I was up and running in NO time at all.
Love this stuff.
